• NFSB Kicks Off Free Mental Health Monthly Workshop Series

The Nutley Family Service Bureau (NFSB) family is excited to announce its new Mental Health Monthly Workshop Series, a free program of events that will be led by the NFSB mental health program staff. Workshops will be held on the second Wednesday of the month at The Knights of Columbus Community Room at 150 Chestnut Street in Nutley, across the street from The Center.

Katherine Carmichael, MSED, MSW, LSW and Executive Director at NFSB said “The goals of these free events are to increase mental health awareness and educate the community about different types of therapy and services available to those who might be struggling with behavioral health challenges.”

“We have a very talented group of clinicians who not only have impressive credentials, but also real-world experiences working with different populations and mental health issues,” said Staela Keegan, MSW, LCSW, LCADC, and Clinical Director at NFSB. “This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community that gives so much to us with their donations and volunteering.”

According to the CDC, more than half of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lives. Mental health affects people of all ages in every area of life, from physical health to relationships to work performance. The Mental Health Monthly Workshop Series can help you gain a deeper understanding of various types of mental health disorders, what resources are available, and how NFSB can help.

“We want to be clear that these workshops are not group therapy,” Staela said. “People who attend can expect an evening of open, honest dialogue with one of our clinicians who specializes in the topic being discussed. Attendees will be encouraged to join the conversation and ask questions if they choose.”

Katherine added, “In addition to mental health, each event will include information about NFSB’s many services including The Pantry, Case management, and The Shop as well as our many volunteer opportunities.”
Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. For more information, visit the NFSB website or call 973-667-1884. Upcoming workshops and presenters are listed below!
